Chess × Merge puzzle game
MergeMateMerge chess pieces. Find checkmate.
Two pawns make a knight. Two knights make a rook. Two rooks make a queen. MergeMate turns chess tactics into a merge puzzle game: build the right piece at the right moment, refill your reserve by capturing, and finish every battle with a real checkmate.
What is MergeMate?
MergeMate (also searched as Merge Mate or MergeMate Chess) is a free chess puzzle game for Android and iOS by Mickey Games. It plays on a compact 6×6 board with normal chess moves, plus one twist: two identical pieces merge into a stronger one. Captures give you reserve pieces, reserves can be deployed back onto your two home rows, and every campaign battle is won by checkmate, never by points.
How it works
- Merge. Move a piece onto a matching piece of your color. Pawn + pawn = knight, knight + knight = rook, rook + rook = queen (and bishop + bishop = rook).
- Capture to refill. Taking an enemy piece returns a smaller piece to your reserve: a captured queen gives you a rook, a rook gives a bishop, a bishop gives a knight, a knight gives a pawn, and every second captured pawn gives a pawn.
- Deploy. Spend a turn to place a reserve piece on any empty square of your two home rows.
- Checkmate. Every battle ends in a real checkmate. Stalemate is a draw, so the game warns you before you play one.

FAQ
What is MergeMate?
MergeMate is a free chess puzzle game for Android and iOS. Two identical pieces merge into a stronger one (pawn to knight, knight to rook, rook to queen), captured pieces refill your reserve, and you win by real checkmate on a 6×6 board.
Is MergeMate free?
Yes. MergeMate is free to download. Version 1.3 has no ads and no in-app purchases.
How does merging work?
Move a piece onto an identical piece of your own color to merge them: two pawns become a knight, two knights a rook, two rooks a queen, and two bishops a rook. A piece can merge with a matching piece next to it or one it could reach with its normal chess move. Merging uses your turn and can never leave your king in check.
Is MergeMate available on iPhone?
MergeMate is available on Google Play for Android now. The iOS version is in App Store review.
Can I play with a friend?
Yes. Choose Challenge a Friend, create a room and share its four-character code. Both players need an internet connection. There is no open chat.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The 100-level campaign and the daily puzzle play offline and save progress on your device. Only friend matches need the internet.
How is it different from regular chess?
Pieces move like in chess and you still win by checkmate, but the board is 6×6, matching pieces merge into stronger ones, captures give you reserve pieces, and reserve pieces can be dropped onto your two home rows. Each level is a hand-built tactical position rather than a full game from the opening.
What happens in a stalemate?
Like in chess, if the opponent has no legal move and is not in check, the game is a draw. MergeMate warns you and asks for a second tap before you play a stalemating move.
